Get Ready for Medicare Open Enrollment

Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15 to December 7 each year. However, you can preview next year’s health plans and prescription drug plans starting on October 1.

Premiums for Medicare Advantage Plans are historically low in 2024. These plans, offered by private companies, are all-in-one alternatives to Original Medicare, bundling Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), and usually Part D (prescription drug coverage). Many plans also offer extra benefits such as vision, hearing, and dental coverage.

Starting October 1, you can use the Medicare Plan Finder to review and compare health and drug plans. If you have a Medicare Number, you can log in at www.medicare.gov to manage your medications, compare current plans, and see prices based on any assistance you receive with drug costs.

For the 1 in 3 Medicare beneficiaries with diabetes, many drug plans will offer a 30-day supply of insulin for $35 or less per month starting in 2024, potentially saving you $446 per year on out-of-pocket costs for insulin.
